For Grace of God

 A  Tragedy of  Life

A drunk walked up and began to speak,
Under old gray hat with bended peak,
An out stretched hand he extended,
For some money to be lend ed,

His mouth stood open but did not ask,
He could not even complete the task,
His legs were bent just like his hat,
He made his way from where he sat,

His shoes were old and far from new,
He dragged his feet and shuffled through,
He stood before me eyes down cast,
I moved away till he had past,

A sorry sight for all to see,
But for grace of God go all of we.
He wound his way in between,
As from side to side he did lean,

A tattered coat he did wear,
No one cared to even stare,
Scruffy beard below his chin,
A lonely sight and a living sin,

Who was he once I did wonder,
What in life can  put asunder,
Maybe once with a family,
Living life like most of we,

Was he born to be like this,
All good things in life to miss,
Many things I did suppose,
Were there highs before the lows,

He continued down the street,
Now a symbol of a mans defeat.

The Golden Years

Golden Years, huh

Golden years, who coined the phrase,
Is it because you see a golden haze,
Going on through the hospital maze,
Of forms and papers that pay bills,
That you incur to cure your ills,
So to pay for pill refills ,

Golden years now that's a kick,
Just more time getting sick,
As time goes by tick by tick,
Golden years, I remain aghast,
You only talk of the past,
How this day may be your  last,

Giving advice to all who listen,
Not knowing in your pants you're pissin,
And talking while your teeth are missin,
Golden Years that's a joke,
All you are is just old folk,
That doctors prod and they poke,

Golden years what baloney,
That idea becomes so phoney,
Even when having lots of mony.
For men who wish extended life,
Be prepared for some more strife,
You will never out live your wife.

The Search

The Search

I don't where I'm goin',
I don't care where I've been,
Afar to the west of me,
Or, near to the east of thee,

North or southern seas,
I sweat and then I freeze,
Latitude or longitude,
The Northern star I've trued

Up down and all around,
For adventures to be found,
A man  forever on the move,
With a restless heart to soothe,

A never ending journey,
Longing only to be free,
Over high mountain altitudes
Then crossing desert platitudes,

Trekking jungles thick and green,
A wet and dark lit screen,
I don't know were I'm going,
A journey with out care.

Snow in New York City

The City Snow
Flakes like cold lace,
As they begin their fall ,
So lightly and nicely,
We look to see them,
In the street lights twinkle,
Down with out a sound,
Muted they stack one by one,
Upon the concrete ground,
A blanket without a hue,
Covering all that is ugly.
Hiding it from view.

NO Homework

Un- prepared

Homework Homework just not done,
After school having too much fun,
What can I say it is due today,
I will act with convincing dismay,

Teacher, Teacher you must understand,
I have no idea of where it did land,
In my window came a breeze last night,
On the night air it must have took flight,

Or Fido my dog is always sniffin' around,
Now it is no where to be found,
Maybe my brother got into my books,
Crushed it 'tween his little hooks,

Believe me teacher this is no con,
I did it last night and now it is gone.

Gabriella Como Si  Bella

The face of dreams come true,
Smiles that are never few,
Leaving her glow on your mind,
Unpleasant thoughts left behind,
Honey drips from those sweet lips
Of which I take many sips,
Laughter from your bright eyes,
Brings from me breathless sighs,
Gabriella como si bella.

Say I love you

VALENTINES DAY

Valentines day is here again,
A lovers message you do send,
It helps to have a holiday,
To say what some dare not say.

With flowers cards diamonds too,
Sometimes all but over due,
Love is what you communicate,
When asking for another date.

Some will say to their mate,
Being together is our fate,
Young boys tell it to their mother,
Promising there will be no other.

Pre teen girls tell it to their dad,
Before they chase a rock band fad,
Sisters tell it to their brothers,
In between new boy friend flutters.

Lovers say it on the phone,
When finding themselves alone,
All this love round and round,
Other days hard to be found.

For we should say everyday,
I love you in every way,
This I always try to do,
Especially when it comes to you.

Why Teachers Exist

 What Teachers Do..

Teaching you and teaching me,
Without teachers where would we be,
In our interest they make demands,
That later in life we understand.

Helping you with what you must know,
Seeds of knowledge they do sow,
In your mind they hopefully seep,
Rewards of which you will then reap.

It is so nice to be around this little girl. I wish I could be around her more. But alas I moved 1200 miles away. If I would have known. I would never be away for even one day.

Gabriella Rose

She fills the room with her glee,
A smiling face for all to see,

She looks around laughs and giggles,
Twisting turning in little wiggles,

Her personality is one of fun,
From the start of the morning sun,

All day long she makes all happy,
When even waking from her “nappie“,

She has a way that get’s attention,
Causing’ all who see her to mention,

She is so darling and so sweet,
Always bouncing to a musical beat,

All around her feel the glow,
As happy feelings start to flow,

From a little girl oh so neat,
Oh, so pretty and  petite,

A little flower she does wear,
Giving her that extra flair,

She loves her daddy and mommy too,
With lots left over for me and you,

Gabriella is her sweet name,
Laughter is her claim to fame.

Nursing A Special Calling

Nurses 1910

Knowing to say,

How is it you're feeling today,
It is their noble calling,

A nurse you see,

They always wanted to be,
It is their special calling,

They touch with a smile,
Then smile with a touch,
It is a special calling,

Right from the start
They felt in their heart,
It is their noble calling,

Saying in the special way,
Words you need to hear,
You see it is their calling,

Telling it will be ok,
Feeling all your fear,
You see it is their calling,

A  Sincere concern ,
Not something learned
Is why it is their calling.

To soldiers hurt in battle,
They are the angel sent,
Is their noble calling,

To the young and weak,
They give love they seek,
A very noble calling,

To the old and infirm,
They keep from falling,
The purpose of their calling,

Knowing you or I,
Makes no difference,
It is their noble calling

There for all
Young, weak and infirm
This is their noble calling

Lillian

Proud Mom and Dad
Lilian was born prematurely at seven months.

Sweet  Lillian

Lillian you beat the odds,
Your sweet life was in the cards

You have grown to a perfect flower,
With each passing precious hour,

Many days came and went ,
Caring for you they were spent,

A perfect gem shiny and new ,
Was cut in heaven becoming you.

Joseph... His own super hero

So I know this kid. Who as it happens is one of my grandsons. As you all know it can get to be pretty boring to hear a grandfather talk about his grand kids. I ought to know. I live in Florida. Funny thing though, I don't hear as much about grand kids as I used to. I wonder why?  That being said, I will continue in my efforts to tell you something of him that you can perhaps relate to. Like all tykes he likes super heroes. His favorite is Superman.... for now anyway.

Then There Is Joseph

I know this little tyke ,
He stands stout and proud,

He has his way most times.

He walks with airy strength,
An offender or  defender,

Which ever he needs to be,

A roaring rocket train,

Or a feather that tickles,
Both good in their own way.

He is Superman ,
Not like Superman,

He is separate and apart.

Superman the super hero,
Protecting Metropolis,

Then there is Joseph.

He shares a costume,
But that is all,
One is not another.

He is better looking,
Black hair like Clark
With that curl unfurled.

Flying with little clenched fists
Out stretched in tandem,
Determined to get there.

He gives you a glare,
Or a side look you know,
What are your intentions.

He knows what to do,
The actions to take,
No words to be said.

He looks better in a cape,
They only share costumes,
Superman is public domain.

No one can be Joseph

Teachers Can Be Nice

 I Loved My Teacher

I had a teacher that was really cool,
She was the reason I attended school,
Every day when I awoke,
Was always of she that I spoke.

On each day we all would enter,
In the classroom she would mentor,
Of our towns little school,
Teaching not to be a fool.

She would stand there at the door,
Watching waiting to see more,
Of the students that she would teach,
Trying hard for many to reach.

Always having a pleasant smile,
Was the way of her teaching style,
Never ever did she exempt,
Teaching all was her intent.

Then one day she went away,
Saying that she could not stay,
I just could never understand,
A better job she did land.

That is the way of the world,
A new life drama had unfurled,
On the morrow I shall see,
If the new teacher is as pretty as she.
